Hong Kong was a flash, a wink, yet a decade ago. I think I’ve grown up a lot during and since that trip back in January. I stayed at Lanson Place in Causeway bay, which provided a peaceful retreat from long adventurous days.

Lanson Place was the perfect for what I needed as a firsttimer in HK – centrally located, surrounded by tons of events, restaurants and people, yet calming and restorative. The entrance patio was my favorite: an indoor quaint garden party setting that let you peek out into the non-stop motion of people outside.

Upstairs and inside, the hotel hosts cream-colored furnishings with light touches of contemporary decor. Other guests I encountered looked refreshed for a new day or glad to be pressing the ‘Up’ button to return to their home away from home.

While not as blatantly accessorized with grandeur as other boutique hotels I stayed at, Lanson kept it low key; a confident player who knows his strengths and isn’t going to try to intimidate you with them.

For me, travelling isn’t just about ticking the boxes next to famous sights I gotta hit up. It’s about having long conversations with those who are passionate about what they do and do it well; it’s about following the well-trodden paths of a big city in the footsteps of someone who has paved their own way; it’s about adventuring and pushing my own boundaries, and then, after all that, being able to take a step back, absorb and learn from these experiences.

So thanks to the Lanson Place team for hosting me this time around, providing me with a thinking tank, a napping nook and a bunch of bananas (that’s the best aliteration I can come up with right now for ‘B’). It was the ideal getaway within my getaway.
